We did not wish to launch a solidarity appeal for the Burmese people who have been struck by cyclone Nargis before knowing if it was possible to forward aid directly to the victims, independently of the military junta and Western governments.

We received specific information that it is effectively possible and would be so for the coming period (unless the political situation in the country hardens up unexpectedly).

The needs are enormous, both in terms of emergency aid and rehabilitation.
ESSF thus calls for your financial solidarity, to be used and dispatched in total independence from the Burmese regime and Western countries. This aid will be distributed by the Burmese citizens’ networks with the help of progressive NGOs, seeing to it that the aid directly reaches the victims at the least cost, while contributing to reinforce the civil society of the country.
