The World Parlamental Forum happening in the city of Porto Alegre on February 1st and 2nd of 2002 is part of the II World Social Forum. It demonstrates its concerns regarding the course of our continent’s people integration, threatened by the United States domination project which seeks the construction of a free commercial area in the Americas (ALCA).
In this sense of meaning, we consider ALCA with this purpose, as an instrument that deepens new liberal politics. It means a threat to the sovereignity of our nations. In addition, it limits the exercise of the government’s political power and the possibilities of autosuficient development of the region.
Therefor, we declare that ALCA in its actual conception, it is not constituted on an integration project, but instead, it is a submission to the United States hegemony interests, having as consequence great increases in inequality among countries and aggravation of poverty and social exclusion.
Concluding, the World Parlamental Forum is committed to promote the regional integration projects that develop public politics in a political, economic and social triple dimension, respecting the cultural diversity, promoting gender equality and the recognition of identity and rights of all the people.
