February 13, 2011 — Congratulations to the Egyptian people for their wonderful result in standing strong against the dictator Mubarak. We put our fists in the air in solidarity with the brave freedom fighters. They taught a big lesson to the security forces and police in the battles fought courageously by the people in Tahrir Square. Through the blood of martyrs, they shook the regime and forced Mubarak to step down.
Now with the agreement between the army leadership and friends of the regime in the US, there will be negotiations between the regime and political parties and representatives of the people’s movement. It is not clear what will happen, because the armys Supreme Council was the backbone of the regime and there are class forces who will work for change in form only, but not change to the system itself. This includes the leadership of the National Democratic Party, Islamic forces and the bourgeois parties, who seek to inherit the government.
On the other side stand the Egyptian people and the classes who bore the burden of the struggle over past years, who showed courage and commitment to democracy since they first occupied Tahrir Square on January 25. These masses and youth are calling to continue the revolution to the end, and to change the constitution so that it meets the aspirations of all. They want the restoration of full human and political rights; social and economic development; the establishment of a civilian government; and a new Egyptian foreign policy that will respect all countries right to democracy and defend the sovereignty of Arab countries, and support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people including the establishment of their own state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The Egyptian peoples battles will contribute to the development and extension of the Arab national liberation movement.
Once again, we salute the great people of Egypt, the young people and democratic forces and our comrades in the Communist Party of Egypt.
