The second round of the elections for the President of the DLP were held from the 6^th to the 10^th of February, 2006.

The second round of votes was due to the result of the first round of votes, in which none of the 3 candidates received the required 50% of the valid votes.

In the second round of the vote for party president, 66.2% of party members that were eligible to vote participated. Of the 31,269 votes that were cast, Moon Sung-Hyun received 53.62% of the votes(16,547) and Cho Seung-Soo received 46.38% of the votes(14,315). 407 of the votes were invalid.

Profile of Mr. Moon:

Born in 1952(Kyunganm province) and a Graduate of Seoul National University(major: Business Administration).

Started work as a press and lathe operator in 1979. Headed the trade union of Tong-Il Heavy Machinery in 1985. Became Secretary General of Korean Trade Union Congress in 1993, and from 1999 held the position of President of the Korean Metalworkers Federation.

Founding member of the Democratic Labor Party, and a member of the central committee, he has been the head of the South-Kyungnam province office of the DLP since 2004.

DLP Leadership Election Results

The results for the leadership positions of the DLP were announced early on the morning of the 25^th. Of the 47000 party members elegible to vote, 33663 voted. Participation rate was 71.02%. The results are as follows.

President:

Moon Sung Hyun: 47.58%
Cho Seung Soo: 44.79%
Joo Dae Hwan: 7.62%

– Because none of the candidates received over 50% of the vote, Moon and Cho will enter a 2^nd round of elections. Votes will be cast from the 6^th of Feb. to the 10^th.

Secretary General:

Kim Sun Dong: 52.20%
Lee Yong Gil: 47.80%

– Kim Sun Dong is the new Secretary General

Chairperson of the Policy Committee

Lee Yong Dae: 50.87%
Yoon Yung Sang: 32.27%
Kim In Sik: 16.86%

– Lee Yong Dae is the new Chairpeson of the Policy Committee
