RESOLUTION PASSED AT PSM’S 14TH CONGRESS HELD AT CHINESE ASSEMBLY HALL ON 2nd AND 3RD JUN 2012
1. The PSM supports the mass movements against the global capitalist system including the worldwide occupy movement, the indignado movement in Spain, and the struggle against the onslaughts on the working people of Greece.
2. The PSM demands a stop to neo-liberal economic policies which erode the quality of life of the people.
3. The government should fulfil all BERSIH demands to ensure free and fair elections. Local council election should also be revived.
4. The PSM demands an immediate stop to all projects which are detrimental to health and the environment e.g. the Lynas rare earth refinery in Gebeng, the Bukit Koman gold mining plant, the Petroleum plant in Pengerong, incinerator in Cameron Highlands and elsewhere, the water supply project from Pahang to Selangor, hillslope development etc.
5. The Government should provide free education up to university level, and abolish the PTPTN study loans.
6. The government should stop wasting public funds on development which does not benefit the people. The electric power industry should be renationalised, and the LLN should be restored to its former function.
7. A minimum wage of RM 1500 should be immediately implemented for all workers.
8. The PSM demands an immediate stop to union busting, and there should be automatic recognition of unions. The contract system must be abolished.
9. The government should protect freedom of religion. . The government should put an end to moral policing, and respect the rights of LGBT. The government should do away with all gender insensitive and discriminatory policies.
10. The PSM demands the right to freedom of assembly in public places.
The government must use the referendum as a mechanism to obtain the people’s opinion in drafting the country’s policies.
11. The PSM strongly protests the violence used by police during BERSIH 3.0 and demands respect for fundamental liberties such as the freedom to assemble, and media freedom.
12. The Government should analyse the deteriorating quality of treatment in many hospitals which has affected the people’s access to healthcare, and take immediate action to rectify this by
i. Setting up a bureau to investigate all negligence in hospitals.
ii. Reviewing and if necessary controlling the intake of medical students to ensure training is not affected as there are insufficient specialists to train them.
iii. Offering free dialysis to all kidney failure patients.
iv. Providing free transportation to patients to go to hospital if there is no affordable public transport to the nearest hospital.
