To provide a venue for the tri-people communities to discuss and find out collective position and action on issues they currently face, the Mindanao Peoples Peace Movement opens the road to the 7th Mindanao Peoples’ Peace Summit (MPPS) for peace and human rights advocates on December 12-16, 2013 at the Mindanao Civic Center, Tubod, Lanao del Norte.
With the theme, “Pursuing Inclusive Right to Self Determination towards a Just and Sustainable Peace in Mindanao” the peace movement commits to continuously support the struggles of the peoples of Mindanao for their Rights to Self Determination and build solidarity among and between peoples.
This summit, the movement will define the real meaning of “inclusive” RSD struggles with the peoples whom for a long time have struggled for genuine realization and fulfillment of their social, cultural, economic, civil and political rights. The summit will serve as a venue to explore the inclusive peoples’ RSD framework and support its promotion and application to elude from paradigm which has a propensity to minoritize and marginalize peoples and communities.
Divided into three parts, the program will flow on the discussion and deliberation on issues and challenges, celebration of the movements’ achievements and successes, direction setting and ways forward. Hence, it will discuss the inclusive RSD framework, updates on the peace processes between the government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), Revolutionary Worker’s Party – Mindanao (RPM-M), and the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army – National Democratic Front (CCP-NPA-NDF).
Furthermore, thematic workshops on migration, food sovereignty, carbon trading, climate change, power and energy Privatization, water privatization, youth situation, gender equality, foreign military spending, foreign military presence, and arts and dance for peace will also be organized.
Equally important will be the the celebration of the movements’ achievements and successes in peacebuilding in the last decade which will revolve around the experiences and best practices of peacebuilding in tribes, organizations, communities and the academe.
300 delegates equally representing the three peoples (Bangsamoro, Lumad and Mindanao Migrants) with 50 guests and observers will be participating in the 7th MPPS.
