Pakistan Kissan Rabita Committee expresses complete solidarity with those on hunger strike at Narmada Valley to safe 40,000 families. PKRC, a net work of peasant organisation and member of La Via Campisena, demands from Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh to complete the rehabilitation process in the Narmada Valley before closing the gates of Sardar Sarovar Dam.
PKRC secretary Farooq Tariq in a message to the hunger strikers said that 40,000 families of Narmada valley, millions of trees, their cattle, farm-barn, temple-mosques, schools and entire ancient civilization are precious asset of India. The government, pretending to give water to Gujarat, must ensure the people of Madhya Pradesh, their livelihood, forests and rivers. The government should not sacrifice Narmada Valley for the sake of protecting private profit.
Farooq Tariq said that the practice of sacrificing the peoples interest in favour of another state would have devastating effects. Effecties of the Narmada Valley must be fully rehabilitated.
Farooq Tariq said that we in Pakistan are often faced similar situation where effecties of a disaster are left on their own to become part of growing river of poverty. However, like you, we also believe nothing can be achieved without struggle and sacrifices. We believe that your effort will bear the fruit and the government would be forced to accept your demands.
In Solidarity,
Farooq Tariq
Secretary
Pakistan Kissan Rabita Committee
