On 27 November 2018, at 11 am, in front of National Press Club, Bangladesh Krishok Federation, Bangladesh Kishani Sabha, Bangladesh Bhumiheen Samity and Bangladesh Adivasi Samity jointly organized rally and human chain.

Presided over by Bangladesh Krishok Federation President Comrade Badrul Alam and conducted by comrade Zayed Iqbal Khan, the function was addressed by Bangladesh Bhumiheen Samity General Secretary Subol Sarker, Bangladesh Shramik Federation leader Humayun Mujib, social activist Abdul Kader Hajari, landless leader Awlad Hossain, Kishani leader Rehana Begum, Mili Akter, Jharna Begum, among others.

The speakers said that on 27 November 1991 in Dashmina sub-district field under Patuakhali district in a gathering 15,000 landless men and women peasant leader comrade Abdus Satter Khan made an historic announcement for the landless people to occupy 22000 acres of land in 4 chars( small island surrounded by water). Accordingly on 1 January 1992, 30000 landless peasants and peasant women i.e. 8000 families took over Charhadi, Charborhan, Charshahjalal and Charbashbaria based on the Land Administration Manual of the government. During Char occupation the landless leader of Charhadi, Nazir Dewan was killed and became martyr.

The speakers added that so far permanent settlement on more than 76000 acres of Khasland and abandoned land were given away among across the country as a result of the united struggle of the landless people. In the Khasland struggle landless leader Nazir Dewan, Narayan, Eshahak Mollah, Zaida Begum and Abdul Karim have dedicated their lives. Lots of landless leaders faced jail lives and maintains sub-human lives being cripple. In order to make their dedication memorable last 14 April 2018 at Charhadi in Dashmina sub-district under Patuakhali district a char conference of landless people took place. Various leaders including former Education and Commerce Advisor to the Caretaker Government, Hossain Zillur Rahman spoke in the conference. Around 5000 landless representatives hailing from different parts of the country took part in the conference and declared 27 November as Land Action Day. They also added that Land Action Day is day for the landless people of the world to be united with the spirit of militant consciousness and to build solidarity among the landless people.

The speakers also called upon to the government to carry out a genuine and comprehensive land reform as well as agrarian reform, to give settlement of all Khas and abandoned land of the country among the landless people, to provide fair price for the crops of peasants and to exempt all sorts of agricultural loan and NGOs’ loan received by peasants.
