Bhurungamari Upazila is a poverty stricken area adjacent to the border. The area is inhabited by farming and fishing communities as well as other professional people. Various steps must be taken for the socio-economic development of the poor.

Workshop on ’Reviewing various policies at the local level and setting strategies for the same’.
Objective:
Socio-economic development of the members of the organization through planned use of agricultural, fisheries and animal resources at the local level by identifying problems.

The program was conducted by Arifuzzaman Rony, Central Member and General Secretary of Bangladesh Krishok Federation Bhurungamari Upazila unit.
Chief Guest:
The upazila chairman could not come even after talking due to party activities. However, he added by telephone:
1. He will always be by the side of the farmer.
2. Achieving food self-sufficiency in Bangladesh depends on agricultural development.
Special Guest Assistant Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Ilias said:
1. The fisheries sector is part of agriculture. Development of fisheries sector means development of agricultural sector.
2. Despite Bangladesh’s many achievements in the fisheries sector, the government needs to play a more effective role in its development and expansion.
3. The organization will be invited to the monthly development meeting of the Upazila Parishad.
Special guest Upazila Animal Resources Extension Officer Md. Enamul Haque said:
1. All kinds of assistance will be provided for the development of animal resources including agriculture.
2. On agriculture issues he called for the help of Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer in each union.
3. He said that they might contact the agriculture office directly for information and cooperation on agricultural issues.
Special guest Upazila Fisheries Extension Officer Md. Khoknuzzaman said:
1. Fishermen including farmers should be encouraged to cultivate fish in a modern way.
2. Arrangements will be made to supply improved fish fry.
3. On fisheries resources issues his office is ready to cooperate in any way.
Special guest Upazila LSP Animal Resources Officer said:
1. Khas dighis, ponds and water bodies in the upazila will be freed from illegal occupation and leased among the landless.
2. Arrangements can also be made on behalf of the government to keep cows, goats, ducks and chickens in these leased places.
3. Promises to provide special training in animal resource development.
Expert representative Tofazzal Hossain said:
1. It is possible to supply milk to other areas by meeting the demand of milk in the area through cattle farms.
2. The poultry sector in the area has huge potential.
3. Agricultural production in the north area is still playing a top role.
