Today, January 17, 2021, is 5th death anniversary of Lear Hossain Khan, former President and Organizing Secretary of Central Committee of Bangladesh Krishok Federation, Leader of South Bengal Khas Land Movement, Founder Member of Dashmina Abdur Rashid Talukder College, President of Dashmina Central Jame Mosque Edition, President of Dashmina Bazar Development Committee, President of Dashmina Students Union during independence war, guerrilla fighter, eminent social worker, a worthy son of comrade Abdus Satter Khan.
On the occasion of the day, a discussion meeting was held on 27/11/1-A at Topkhana Road (2nd floor), Segunbagicha, Dhaka-1000 at 3 pm under the central initiative of Bangladesh Krishok Federation.
The meeting was presided over by Comrade Badrul Alam, President of Bangladesh Krishok Federation and addressed, among others, by General Secretary of Bangladesh Landless Association Subal Sarkar, General Secretary of Bangladesh Workers Federation AAM Fayez Hossain, General Secretary of Bangladesh Krishok Federation Zayed Iqbal Khan, Vice President Rehena Akter, General Secretary of Bangladesh United Building and Wood Workers Federation AKM Shahidul Alam Faruk, Jahangir Hossain, Organizing Secretary of the Central Committee of the Garment and Industrial Workers Federation, Salma Akter, Central Leader of the Bangladesh National Workers Federation.
At the beginning of the meeting, 1 minute silence was observed expressing homage to Lear Khan by standing together.
The speakers said that Comrade Lear Hossain Khan was active in the student politics from his childhood. He was the President of Dashmina Student Union during the war of independence and under his leadership students took part in the guerrilla war.
He actively participated in the politics of the Communist Party-ML of post-independence Bangladesh and the then government issued a warrant against him. He was in hiding for many years and was later arrested and imprisoned.
He was released from jail in 1976 and became an active member of the Bangladesh Krishok Federation.
The speakers further said that Comrade Lear Hossain Khan, despite growing up in a family political environment, became involved in leftist politics from his student life and took an active part in the liberation war of 1971.
His dedicated efforts led to the successful settlement of Khas land for landless in the south since 2000. Despite the ups and downs of political life, he was a soul dedicated to the establishment of the rights of the common man.
The void created in the Khas land movement by the death of comrade Lear Hossain Khan has not been filled yet. Leadership like Lear Khan was needed to accelerate the present Khas land movement. The leaders called upon all landless peasants to unite to make the Khas land movement national.
