We, Bangladesh Krishok Federation, operated relief activities last year when the COVID 19 broke out across the country. Apart from the food relief, we provided hand sensitizers and masks to the people so that they could not be infected with COVID 19.
Last year in March Novel Corona virus came to Bangladesh through central airport in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Some Italian migrant Bangladeshis carried COVID 19 pandemic with them. Then it spread all over the country in an alarming manner. Last year in September it started to reduce significantly and the people made hope to get relief from Corona virus.
However, this current year in March again this pandemic is on the rise substantially, threatening the lives and livelihoods of the people.
The government declared countrywide lockdown since 5 March 2021. It is still continuing. During lockdown all kinds of vehicles are suspended until further order. The impact of lockdown is enormous. Middle class, lower middle class, poor and extreme poor are facing food crisis as they do not have any income. Last year the government took some measures with incentive as loans for business holders and stimulus for the peasants as loans with low interest rate. Besides, the government distributed relief materials among the distressed people in the countryside although there are huge complaints against government in terms of irregularities in the distribution process. Lack of good management many people who deserved support were deprived.
This year too, the government declared some allocation for the poor but nobody knows whether the deserving people will have access to.
We all know that corona is muting and becoming stronger than before. This time the mutant has come from Africa via the UK. So it is possibly resilient to vaccines already taken by the people. Often it is heard that some people still died who was vaccinated twice with particular doses.
Bangladesh Krishok Federation formed a three-member Emergency Relief Committee to collect funds for the COVID 19 impacted people. This committee will serve mainly the members of its organizations and that of its other associate organizations, such as Bangladesh Kishani Sabha, Bangladesh Adivasi Samity, Bangladesh Bhumihin Samiti, Bangladesh Rural Intellectuals Front, Bangladesh Bhasman Shramik Union, Bangladesh Bhasman Nari Shramik Union, Bangladesh Jubo Sabha, Ganochhaya Sanskritic Kendro, Bangladesh Sramic Federation, Bangladesh Jatiyo Sramik Federation, Bangladesh Ready Made Garment Workers Federation and Bangladesh Garment Workers Employees Federation. We are planning to support up to 1000 families who fall into living subhuman life losing jobs and livelihood activities. One packet containing rice, pulses, onion, garlic, potatoes, salt, sugar, flour, cooking oil, soap, etc., will be given away to each family. Each packet with those food material costs Tk. 500/-. So for 1000 families it will cost Tk 500000/-.
We will try to raise the funding from the well-wishers, sympathizers, funders, etc.
Therefore, we appeal to all who have their big heart to support the vulnerable people to COVID 19. We can make sure that your support will go to genuine cause. We also have our past good track report in dealing the relief during different disaster periods.
Thus, we hope to get proper response from soon for the survival of helpless COVID 19 impacted people.
Your support, whatever the amount, is will be highly appreciated.
