In a statement, the leaders of the Progressive Krishak Sangram Parishad expressed togetherness, solidarity and support for the ongoing peasants’ movement in India which started last year and called on the Indian government to repeal three laws on agriculture which are against the interests of farmers.

Describing this movement to save the life and livelihood of the farmers as logical, the leaders said that today the farmers all over the world are going through a difficult time. In the wake of the new liberal policy, the world’s peasantry is facing a crisis of their very existence. At the same time, India’s peasant society is setting a shining example of systematic struggle all over the world.

Wishing success to the movement, they paid deep respects to the hundreds of farmers who had already died during the movement and extended their condolences to the bereaved families.

The leaders also appealed to the Government of India to refrain from any kind of harassment of all leaders, activists, members and supporters participating in the movement. Referring to the glorious history of the peasant movement in the Indian subcontinent, the leaders reminded the Government of India that India’s independence was achieved through the blood-stained path of the peasant movement. Therefore, it may not be good for the government to underestimate the peasant movement.

The leaders lauded the hard-working role that farmers have been playing in the streets for years. At the same time, they called upon the government to accept the demands of the farmers and pave the way for the farmers to return to their agricultural work.
