The land bandits are trying to encroach the Char [1] with a view to looting paddy of 1800 acres of Khasland [2] in isolated Sikdarerchar in Mujibnagar union under Charfasion upazila(Sub-district) in Bhola district. These land terrorists have removed 700 families who received temporary settlement on the land 15 years back.
Demanding the security of lives and lands on Sunday, 31 October 2021 a press conference was held by the local residents under the banner of Landless Cooperative Association which is one of the registered wings of Bangladesh Krishok Federation (BKF).
In a written statement, Alam Bachchu, General Secretary of the Cooperative Association informed that they started living in and cultivating that the land emerged from the riverbed of Tetulia since 1991 as landless. The then government in 1995-96 gave settlement for 700 acres of land to 700 families, by one acre to each family as landless. Immediately, a couple of days later, Aslam, son of land terrorist, Nasir Pyada, Sohel, and Mahmudul Hasan, son of Shajahan Sarder, madly desperate to expropriate that land in association with 50-60 people. They also claimed the land to be their own by mentioning the plot No. 924 and 1213. In effect, there is no such plot numbers in this Char.
Manufacturing such a false and forged paper, they grabbed 1100 acres of land in the Char and claimed the ownership of the land. There is an accusation against former Union Council Chairman Md. Sirajuddin to be engaged with them. Because of their torture, the landless family is compelled to leave the Charland one by one. To this end, the high court bench comprising justice Asraful Islam and Kamrul Kader ordered DC (Deputy Commissioner) to take necessary steps in this regard on 10 April 2018 when a writ petition was filed in the High Court on behalf of Landless Cooperative Society. Even after this order the landless people have not been getting any positive result for the last 3 years.
