Our trade union organizations welcome the release of:
– Reza Shahabi, and Hassan Saeedi, members of the Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company (VAHED);
– Keyvan Mohtadi, writer, translator and an active supporter of the workers’ movement.
Shahabi, Saeedi and Mohtadi, were released on 1 September 2024 from the notorious Evin prison where they had been held since May 2022. They had been arrested for their trade union activities and defending wagers rights. They were held in solitary confinement and were interrogated for months. Their six-year prison sentence was eventually reduced on appeal.
We continue to monitor closely the situation in Iran and in particular the plight of workers’ and human rights activists.
In this regard, we call for the immediate release of Davoud Razavi, Ebrahim Madadi, Reyhaneh Anssari, Anishah Assadolahi, Esmail Guerami and Rassool Bodaghi.
We are deeply concerned about the emergency situation of the activists and in particular that of Sharifeh Mohammadi and Pakhshan Azizi, as well as two feminist activists Varisheh Moradi and Nassim Gholami Fard, who have been sentenced to death. We demand their immediate release.
Our trade union movement does not tolerate the harassment of trade union activists anywhere in the world.
We are determined to continue our fight on the world stage and to campaign in order that the Iranian government respects the fundamental freedoms, including trade union rights.
All political prisoners and prisoners of conscience must be released!
