Jewish Voice for Peace is horrified by the Israeli government’s massacres and forced displacement of families and communities in Lebanon, and its deadly military assaults in Yemen and Syria. Israel is committing these war crimes at the same time that it is escalating the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in Gaza and across the West Bank.
The Israeli government has brought the entire region to the precipice of a full-blown war that will bring even more death and destruction. At every step, Israel has been fully supported and funded by the United States government. The only way to stop the rogue Israeli regime is for the U.S. government to immediately stop arming and funding the Israeli military.
Call your Senators: No more weapons
The Israeli government is employing the same lethal tactics in Lebanon that it is unleashing on Palestinians in Gaza, using U.S. weapons to relentlessly bomb densely populated areas, resulting in mass killings, forced displacement, and the destruction of cities and villages. Reports from today indicate that the Israeli military has crossed the border into Lebanon and that a full ground invasion is imminent.
In the largest mass displacement in Lebanon’s history, the Israeli military’s assaults have forced approximately one million people from their homes in a matter of days. An estimated 100,000 Lebanese are trying to escape to Syria, fleeing Israeli air raids, with the number crossing the border more than doubling in the past two days. Nearly a year into the genocide in Gaza, Israel’s apartheid government is barreling towards the total decimation, ethnic cleansing and — according to the latest statements by Israeli officials — illegal military occupation of south Lebanon.
While the Israeli government expands its atrocities and war crimes into Lebanon, it is escalating the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians across Gaza and the West Bank. Yesterday, in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, the Israeli military murdered journalist Wafa al-Udaini and three of her family members, while also bombing Umm Al-Fahm School in Beit Lahiya in north Gaza, which houses hundreds of displaced Palestinian families. Today in the occupied West Bank, the Israeli military razed Palestinian land in Barta’a, northwest of Jenin. Yesterday in Sinjl, northeast of Ramallah, the Israeli military prepared to construct new apartheid walls that will cut off Palestinians from their land.
Over the weekend, Israeli forces also began bombing Syria and Yemen, subjecting the entire region to the Israeli military’s unrestrained violence.
In almost one year of genocide, the Israeli government has killed well over 42,000 Palestinians, and is starving an entire population. Every step of the way, the U.S. has shipped bombs and war planes to the Israeli government to continue its assaults, while simultaneously shielding Israel from any form of accountability. The Biden administration’s calls for de-escalation and ceasefire are hollow and meaningless as long as it continues fueling and funding the Israeli government’s ever-expanding war.
Take action to stop the bombs
Total impunity for Israel over decades has brought us to this moment. The only way to stop the Israeli government, to reach ceasefires in Gaza and Lebanon, and to prevent the further slaughter of Palestinian and Lebanese communities is for the U.S. to stop arming Israel now.
