KATHMANDU, April 25 - The Election Commission (EC) Friday announced the allocation of seats for the Constituent Assembly (CA) as per the final results of the elections held under the proportional representation (PR) electoral system.
The EC divided the 335 CA seats under the PR system amid a press conference at the EC office in the capital this afternoon.
As per the final announcement made today, CPN-Maoist has won 100 seats, Nepali Congress has won 73 seats, UML has won 70 seats, Madheshi People’s Rights Forum MPRF has won 22 seats, Terai Madhesh Democratic Party has won 11 seats, People’s Front Nepal has won 5 seats and Rastirya Janashakti Party has won 3 seats.
Likewise, the vote garnered by the parties under the PR system, Rastriya Prajatantra Party has won 8 seats, Nepal Worker and Peasants Party has won 2 seats, Samaj Badi Janata Dal has won 2 seats, National People’s Front has won 3 seats, Jana Mukti Party has won 2 seats, Rastriya Prajatantra Party has won 4 seats, CPN-United has won 2 seats, CPN-ML has won 8 seats, CPN-Joint has won 5 seats, Dalit Janajati has won 1 seat, Nepal Sadbhavana Party-Anandi-devi has won 2 seats, Nepali Janata Dal has won 2 seats and Nepal Sadbhavana-Mahato has won 5 seats.
The parties have to submit the name lists of winning candidates within seven days from today so as to include women, Madhesi, indigenous community and Marginalised community among others as per the inclusive standards maintained by the EC.
Similarly, the EC has allotted three more days to check over the lists submitted by the parties if the lists failed to meet the criteria set by the EC.
According to the EC, around 10.0739778 votes were cast under the PR system.
The final PR result showed that 25 political parties are set to occupy seats in the CA that is to draft a new constitution.
The CPN-Maoist which has secured 120 seats of the total 240 seats under the First-Past-the-Post (FPtP) electoral system has secured 100 seats by garnering 31,44, 204 (29.28 %) votes under PR system which is less than 1315 votes under FPtP system.
Likewise, NC has garnered 22, 69, 823 votes under the PR system though it has received 23, 68, 890 votes under FPtP system.
Similarly, UML has secured 21, 83,370 votes under the PR system which is less than 45,694 votes under FPtP system.
MPRF, which has emerged as fourth largest party in the CA polls, has garnered 6, 78, 300 votes under PR system exceeding 44, 173 votes under FPtP system.
