Dear comrades,
We would like, first of all, to thank you once again for your participation
in the NPA’s congress : 70 organisations from 45 countries were present.
We took a commitment during the meeting of the organisations which had been
invited to the NPA’s congress, we are sending you this letter in order to
confirm our proposals.
As has been discussed during this meeting, the global crisis which the
capitalist system is going through is going to set the parameters for world
politics for the coming months. This crisis is going to change the world
social and political landscape. The balances of forces between the classes
are going to change, as are the relationships between states. The situation
of the working class movement and of the left is also going to go through
upheavals. The need for an alternative to the traditional left parties is
going to be felt more and more keenly among the popular classes. The answers
to the capitalist crisis will be a decisive test for every tendency and
organisation.
In this context, anticapitalist tendencies, organisations, parties have new
responsibilities, in mobilisations, in struggles, in responding to the
crisis.
We think this puts on the agenda a discussion on the possibilities for
common action and common debate. Everywhere, the yearning for a gathering
together of anti-imperialists and anticapalists is manifest : in Latin
America, in Europe, in Asia, just as in the Mediterranean Basin and in
Africa. But also on a world scale, for we all want to have exchanges, to
understand et to act together beyond our regional borders.
Common actions, in order to resist the bosses’ and governments’ attacks
against workers and peoples, in order to show our solidarity with the
Palestinian people, in order to take part in the unity protests proposed by
the World Social Forum at the end of March or in the demonstrations against
the 60th anniversary of NATO on April 4. Exchanges of experiences in order
to learn from one another in the international struggle against the
capitalist system. And, finally, multiplying debates, meetings between
organisations in order to discuss and verify existing political
convergences.
As we have made clear, this is not about decreeing a new International, but
we do think that the new situation demands even “more internationalism”, in
order to build new networks, new links between organisations, with new
international groupings as a perspective.
In this spirit, we will be sending to all organisations who wish it those
email addresses of other organisations which are available to us (an already
long yet not comprehensive list), or, if this is preferable to you, we will
circulate your contributions, in order to continue in this way with the
common work which has begun. Let us know.
