Dear Colleagues, sisters and brothers:
On behalf of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, I am writing to express our sincere thanks to you, your staff, and members of the Hong Kong People’s Action for incredible support that we received during our struggle in Hong Kong. Without the support and solidarity provided by you and your organisation, we would not have been able to successfully return to Korea to our families and colleagues. I know that you and your organisation put in a number of long hours and also sacrificed time away from family and friend during the holidays. We will forever be grateful for the dedication and commitment that was shown by all of you.
Clearly the struggle is yet from over, since as you know three of the activists including our Vice-President Yang Kyung Kyu will be facing trial in March. However, I am convinced that once again justice will prevail and we will be cleared of all charges. I am also convinced that through this trial we will once again prove to the Hong Kong authorities and the rest of the world that our struggle was indeed legitimate.
There are a number of things that we will remember about our struggle in Hong Kong. One of this is the incredible support and solidarity that was provided by you and your organisation. I am confident that as we continue to work closely together particularly in preparation of our upcoming trial, the relationship between our two unions will only strengthen. I hope that someday we will be able to reciprocate the support and solidarity provided by your union, and please remember that you will always have an open invitation to visit Korea to further develop the relationship between our two unions. Once again thank you and I look forward to continue to working you.
In Solidarity and Struggle,
Jeon, Jae-hwan
Acting President, KCTU
