ASSASSINATION IN MALI

Yesterday evening in Bamako, an activist was killed. He was a member of the “Union”, that brings together over 50 local inhabitants NGOs of those people in the neighbourhood who are threatened by expulsion by real estate speculators and friends of those in power

Every Sunday, the local inhabitants of the number 1 neighbourhood in Bamako get together. Last Sunday, durung their meeting, the real estate speculator’s representative arrived with building materials, protected by four town policemen. This was pure provocation

The Union representatives then informed the “intruders” that legal proceedings had been started, and that no work could begin before the court handed down its decision. The four armed local policemen then got up and threatened the people. “If you don’t stand back, we shall shoot”. The people, who were very calm, didn’t move

It was an assassination & we must not remain silent. We shall be sending out the emails and telephone numbers to who you can send your protests and support the Union demands
