No-Vox):
No Vox would like to express its indignation about the demolitions that
started on 7 March and are still ongoing in Lubango city (south of
Angola).
No Vox fully rejects the violent methods that are being used, ignoring any
kind of respect for human dignity, and that already provoked the death of
7 people, including one child who fell of a truck that was transporting
evicted people, one child who was run over by government cars that were
escaping stoning by people living in Canguinda area, and one adult who
fainted while seeing his house being demolished and passed away today at
the hospital. Among the four other persons who died were also children who
would have stayed in one of the houses demolished.
In the process, it is estimated that more than 1000 houses were demolished
already. The announced objective is to demolish 3 100 houses, affecting
about 13 000 people, without any guarantee that they be resettled or
anything else.
No Vox calls for international solidarity, calls to the President of the
Angolan Republic, and to the National Assembly for the urgent creation of
a commission to investigate the extent and conditions of the demolition
process underway in Lubango:
Immediately a moratorium on evictions
That opens a dialogue with the head (s) of the families;
Arrange decent alternative accommodation for each family;
Compensate the families of deceased persons and the ones who lost their
things;
Open a formal investigation to clarify the facts and punish those
responsible.
On 25 March there will be a demonstration to condemn the demolitions and
evictions in Lubango (13 000 persons at risk, many already violence and
deaths) and to require compliance with the law and all international
treaties signed thereon.
The event will begin at 15:00 in Benguela, at the end of the journey, at
Largo de Africa, speeches and artistic interventions will be organized.
