About 4 months ago, as the last battle to change Thailand in that series was about to take place-between the Red Shirt for democracy and the Amart for elite rule was about to take place-holding the answer were the a Thai military general who was the Red Shirt defense minister, Seh Daeng, and another Thai general, Prayuth, a staunch Thai royalist queen guard general of the elite rule of Thailand.
At that crucial point-about a day before the two Thai general clashed on the street of Bangkok-with Seh Daeng holding the lives and humanity of the protesters as his weapon and Prayuth holding a mighty Thai military that have always been willing to kill its own countrymen as the weapon-in a plush hotel room-two main cliques of the Thai military met and they agreed to kill Seh Daeng.
The two are the Burapayak clique of queens guard lead by Prayuth and the Wongthewan clique-loosely known as the kings guard.
Weather the palace knows of the meeting is beside the point and inconsequential-another Thai General, Prem-dubbed the Killer of the Chao Phraya River-who is behind the engineer of the rise of Prayuth and the other members of Burapayak-was in hiding.
Prem, the head of the Privy Council-had never seen the events leading up to that day Seh Daeng was killed before.
The Red Shirt-supported by millions and millions of Thais-have been attacking him and his extensive roots in the highest echelons of the elite rule of Thailand directly-exposing cronyism, corruption, and for breaking the Thai Constitutional banning privy councils for involvement in politics.
Things were bad for Prem-in skirmishes leading up to the major crackdown that broke the Red Shirt defenses, in that series of protest-a key Burapayak General, Lomklao, was blown to bits in his command post-as sources told Thai Intel-Prayuth was busy with the snipers deed on top of a building where Lomklao was killed.
Never before had Thailand came to such a risky level for the elite rule of Thailand-that shook the entire Thai national security apparatus to its core.
At that hotel room, where the Burapayak and the long suppressed Wongthavan cliques met-they made a deal-join the Burapayak and the suppression of the Wongthavan will cease and be given promotions-and thus Seh Daeng-who was counting on the Wongthawan to jump in and destroy the Burapayak as Prayuth and his cliques faced and weakened by the Red Shirt-was taken out of the picture.
Together, they crushed the Red Shirt-and as some now say, Prayuth is set to replace Prem-as the new Killer of the Chao Phraya River-or in this case-The Killer of Rajprasong Shopping Area.
But have anything really changed?
Hardly, millions and millions of Thais continue to support the Red Shirt and in Parliament-never before had the Thai military been attacked-even by the opposition.
On the same day as the Thai generals went to Sweden for a ceremony to take delivery of a new fighter jet-in the Thai parliament-debate rages about the Thai military budget levels and the corruption.
And in Thailand, the very few independent professional press such as the Matichon Group-had been exposing potential corruption cases in the military on the daily basis.
And as for maintaining Thailand territory integrity and its traditional control of the Thailand’s foreign policy-the Thai military backed down from confronting Cambodia and allocated the control of Thailand’s foreign policy to politics and public opinion.
Matichon Weekly summarized its extensive coverage of the Thai military in this week’s issue by saying-Prem, for all his greatness and power-can not do what he used to do-and that was to just walk into a noodle shop in E-Sarn where the Red Shirt are strong-and just sit down and have a dish of noodle.
“For Prem to do that today, he will need a battalion of soldiers as body-guard,” wrote Matichon.
The fundamental fact is, as Prayuth proudly announced that under him there is no division in the Thai military, “But just brothers in arms” under the Thai military-which is the rest of Thailand-it is a country divided and struggling to re-define itself.
That supra structure to which the Thai military feeds its power off-as one intelligence analyst told Thai Intel, “Will likely turn around and crucify the Thai military one day.”
“The only reason 100,000s of Red Shirt are not protesting in Bangkok today, is not because their leaders are in jail or that the Red Shirt are frightened-but because of the Emergency Decree in Bangkok is giving the Thai military the right to kill again…..And to lessen that Bangkok-centric protest of the Red Shirt-the Thai military had opted to open up the provinces for protest……Fortunate or unfortunate-Northern Thailand ans the E-Sarn region are where the core of the Red Shirts are.”
“The end result is perhaps, piece by piece, Thailand’s national security is falling apart and the military is loosing its grip………………. Thailand is entering un-charted territory. Prem just cerebrated his 91 birthday and the future of Thai royalism is in a transition period……………The globe is watching with increasing understanding of the real events in Thailand,” said the analyst.
