Central Executive Committee of Awami Party Pakistan has endorsed the ongoing process for merger of left & progressive parties and formed the seven members committee in this regard for further process. The meeting of Awami Party Pakistan was held in Islamabad on 3rd June 2011, chaired by Acting President, Shahab Khattak was in session till late in night. The participants deliberated on Abbottabad Operation, Terrorist attack on Naval Mehran Base in Karachi, Assassination of journalist Saleem Shahzad, protest campaign by KESC workers, increasing State oppression in Baluchistan, Target killing in Karachi, issues of flood victims, implementation of 18th amendments and organizational matters of Awami Party Pakistan. Following resolutions were accepted and demands were issued by Central Executive Committee:—
1. Killing of Osama-Bin-Laden in Abbottabad operation by US forces has created serious concerns & threats to the very existence of state of Pakistan. Awami Party Pakistan demanded for the formation of independent Commission of inquiry, not only to make public the network responsible for keeping OBL in hide out in Abbottabad but as well as to prosecute the culprits under act of high treason.
2. Awami Party Pakistan condemns the assassination of journalist Saleem Shahzad and declared that emails of the assassinated journalist are enough proof to prosecute intelligence agencies.
3. The CEC condemned the state aggression and killings of intellectuals, teachers, political activists and others in Baluchistan. Awami Party Pakistan demanded to withdraw all military and paramilitary forces from Baluchistan and to restore complete authority of civilian administration in Baluchistan. Party strongly condemned kidnapping, torture and killing of nationalist political activists in Sindh.
4. Awami Party Pakistan demanded to increase the budget of education, health, employment, housing and drinking water upto 15% for fiscal year 2011-12. Party demanded 50% decrease in defense budget as well as to lay the defense budget before Parliament for discussion and approval.
5. CEC criticized Government’s policy for unchecked internal and external borrowing and demanded to borrow only after thorough review and approval by the Parliament.
6. CEC demanded to allocate maximum financial resources for flood victims in budget 2011-12.
7. Central Executive Committee meeting demanded to implement 18th Amendment in letter & spirit.
8. CEC meeting demanded to provide support to flood victims of District Jafferabad and to extend basic services to the area. Party demanded to ensure irrigation water to tail-end farmers of “Seer Minor” in District Jafferabad.
9. CEC meeting expressed deep concerns over continuous target killing in Karachi. It expressed its dismay over promises made by coalition provincial government to end target killing in Karachi. CEC demanded a de-weaponized Karachi.
10. CEC meeting condemned ban on labour inspection in Punjab and considered it completely illegal and without any force of law. Party demanded to allow and restart effective labour inspection under Factories Act 1934 without delay and any hindrance.
11. Awami Party Pakistan condemned KESC administration for its illegal and extra-constitutional behavior with KESC workers. The Party is of the opinion that privatization has caused poor performance and anti-workers atmosphere, therefore demanded to nationalize KESC in best interest of KESC consumers and workers.
12. CEC meeting expressed concerns over rapid increasing of “Contract Labour System” by industrialists and stated that the objective of national growth can only be achieved by implementation of labour laws and social securities of workers. Party declared contract system of labour as illegal and demanded to abolish it.
Central Executive Committee meeting also decided to initiate mass mobilization campaign all over Pakistan for above demands.
