Send an Activist to the Manila School
The International Institute for Research and Education (IIRE) in Manila will organize the 3rd Asian Global Justice School (AGJS) this 17th of July until the 7th of August 2011.
The AGJS is an intensive three-week school. Participants are social activists coming from very different countries and traditions, most of them are from the Third World. The AGJS generally aimed to develop the theoretical and international knowledge of all the participants. The discussions are designed for a dynamic exchange of knowledge, experiences and ideas between participants themselves and between participants and lecturers. The School is an important activity towards enhancing the praxis of participant-activists in confronting the present realities and challenges and in offering alternatives.
However, the participation of some Third World activists is made difficult by financial constraints. The following participants are very eager to participate but do not have enough funds to cover the airfare.
1. Indonesia – There are two Indonesian groups with one (1) ready participant each but are waiting for financial help for their airfare to attend to the school in Manila.
a. People’s Solidarity Network (PSN) – An organization based in Yogyakarta, they are ready to send a young female university student activist.
b. Political Committee of the Poor – People’s Democratic Party (KPRM-PRD) – Based in many parts of Indonesia, they are ready to send a female Trade Union and Feminist activist.
2. Sri Lanka – The Nava Sama Samaja Party (NSSP) or the New Social Equality Party is ready to send a Tamil activist who is also a Trade Union organizer.
3. Bangladesh – A Social Movement in Bangladesh deeply involved in the campaigns on Food Sovereignty, Climate Change and Urban Poor Rights is ready to send two (2) participants: a male and a female.
4. Pakistan – The Labor Party Pakistan (LPP) is ready with a participant and a lecturer, who are both veteran activists involved in local and international campaigns and struggles.
In the spirit of solidarity, we are asking for any amount of donation to realize the participation of these activists to the School. Your contribution would also help strengthen the ties between these organizations in Asia.
Another Global Justice School will also be held by the Amsterdam IIRE this coming 26th November to 17th December 2011. Activists from all over the world, including the Third World, are also expected to participate. The IIRE in Amsterdam are also calling for contributions for the Third World participants of the Amsterdam Global Justice School.
The two IIRE’s launch this joint appeal to seek sponsors for the travel costs of participants from the Third World to either school.
