Islamabad. Awami Workers Party announced to launch a country wide campaign in favor of land reforms and against the Privatization of National Assets on the auspices of International Financial Agencies. In pursuance of the objective the AWP is organizing a Multi-Party Conference. This was decided during the two days Federal Committee meeting of AWP held here in Islamabad.

This meeting was jointly presided by Abid Hassan Minto (President), Fanoos Gujjar (Chairman) and Farooq Tariq (General Secretary) of the party.

According to the party spokesperson Nisar Shah, an exhaustive discussion took place in the meeting regarding the social, economic and political situation of the country and it was concluded that in the present situation, the masses, and working class are facing severe economic hardship, lawlessness, and are living in a miserable state. The solution of the said problems is that the democratic progressive forces and civil society come forth and play an active role in mobalisation of the people.

The AWP while criticizing the economic and political policies of the PMLN Government stated that the existing Government has mortgaged the whole country to the foreign monetary agencies and the blood of the masses is being sucked to feed the “thirst of the greed” of international monetary agencies.

That an unjustified burden of unreasonable taxes and uncontrolled inflation has been imposed on the masses, on the one hand masses are facing uncontrolled inflation, unemployment, poverty and lawlessness but on the other.

The ruling classes oblivious of this are “hell bent” on selling national assets for throw away prices. Private and public lands are being sold to multinational companies.

A free hand has been given to extremist religious fanatics to commit mass murder and shed blood in the name of religion and to promote sectarian religious hatred. Negotiation with the Taliban in the name of peace amounts to condoning Talibanization of the country.

The target killing of the political workers in Baluchistan and Sind has become a routine affair and thousand of the such workers are missing. The Government has no idea about the whereabouts of such workers or at least is unable or unwilling to produce them before the competent courts. The reason of this is that agencies who consider themselves above the law do not consider themselves answerable before any court of law or any supervisory authority whether it be the Government or Parliament.

In such circumstances peace and prosperity in this country is not possible. The above stated points were emphasized through various resolutions and certain decisions were taken the details of which are as follows:

1. In order to end religious extremism and sectarian violence and for bringing about peace in society, it is necessary that literature that promotes religious differences and religious hatred is taken out from the “National Educational Curriculums”.

2. Land reforms should be implemented immediately and sale of public and private land to multinational companies be stopped.

3. That the daylight robbery by privatisation of national enterprises be stopped immediately.

4. That the target killing and kidnapping of political activists in Baluchistan, Sind and all over the country be stopped immediately and all missing persons who are in the custody of the State agencies be released immediately.

5. That no negotiation be done with extremist entities including Taliban and instead action be taken against them according to law.

6. That laws made for curtailing terrorism not be used to victimized members of trade unions and political activists.

It was decided

1. That a country wide campaign will be initiated in favor of land reforms and against the privatization of public entities. For this purpose firstly, a multi party conference will be held and after that countrywide demonstration will be organized.

2. Federal Congress of AWP will be held on March 29^th 2014. In which the countrywide party delegates will participate.

3. A countrywide campaign against the religious extremism will be launched and peaceful progressive forces will be united for the said purpose.

4. AWP will participate in coming Local Body Elections as a people front Awami Mahaz).
