Peshawar: August 29. Pukhtoon Students Federation, a progressive nationalist student organization in Pakistan and affiliated with Awami National Party (www.awaminationalparty.org), staged a protesting demonstration here against the killing of veteran Baloch political leader and chief of Jamhoori Watan (democratic motherland) Party (JWP), Nawab Akbar Bugti by Pakistani military.
The protesting students burnt an effigy of President Pervez Musharraf outside the Peshawar Press Club and held him responsible for the killing of Nawab Bugti and his tribesmen in the security forces’ operation.
They were carrying placards inscribed with slogans paying tribute to Nawab Bugti for his struggle for the rights of Baloch people. They chanted slogans against the military rulers and their civilian partners.
Speaking to the protesters, PSF provincial president Said Alam Khan condemned what he called the targeted killing of Nawab Bugti who had sacrificed his life for the rights of his people. He said if struggling for the political rights of a people was rebellion, every nationalist was a traitor.
He alleged that the military rulers had become a threat to the integrity of the country and military dictators had always brought sufferings and tragedies for both the masses as well as the country.
He said only a real democratic set-up could protect the country from adventurers.
He said his organisation was affiliated with the Awami National Party and it would endorse every decision taken by the ANP on the tragic Bugti issue.
He appealed to democracy-loving elected representatives to tender their resignation from the national and provincial assemblies and Senate, which had failed to settle the Balochistan and Waziristan issues.
He said that the existence of the country was linked with the restoration of true democracy and the rule of law in the country.
He condemned “the dual role” of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), an alliance of religio-political parties over the killing of Nawab Bugti. He said the MMA was part of the Balochistan coalition government, which was involved in the killing of Nawab Bugti.
The students also distributed pamphlets, criticising the killing of Nawab Bugti and his tribesmen and the continuing military rule in the country.

PESHAWAR: The Pakhtoon Students Federation (PKSF), the student wing of the Awami National Party, staged a protest demonstration here on Tuesday against the killing of veteran Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Bugti.
They set fire to an effigy of President General Pervez Musharraf and urged the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal to quit the Balochistan government in protest.
Demanding an end to the military operation, irate demonstrators condemned the use of force in Balochistan. They assembled before the Peshawar press club and chanted slogans against Musharraf, the military operation and the security forces being involved in the operation in Balochistan.
Paying tributes to Bugti, they said Bugti’s “murder is the death of democracy”. The PKSF activiststs raised slogans, including “Musharraf Hattao Mulk Bachao” and “Bugti’s death is the first step towards independent Balochistan”.
PKSF provincial chief Saeed Alam Baba, addressing the protesters, said the Bugti’s killing has proved no democracy exists in the country while all affairs are in direct control of the Army. "Small nations have no future in Pakistan where patriots and those wanting their rights are being eliminated by the military rulers.”
By killing a Baloch leader, anti-state elements wanted clashes between various nations and were paving the way for an independent Balochistan, Baba said, adding that now it was the responsibility of all democratic forces to come forward to save democracy and end “dictatorship” in the country.
He also demanded of all political parties to ask their lawmakers to resign from the assemblies. He asked the MMA to shun double standard and quit the Balochistan government in protest.
