The 8th March is the international woman’s day. It recalls the workers of New York in strike for better work conditions, the Russian women that inaugurated the revolution of 1917 and so many others that continue their struggle. A date built in the history of the women’s actions and self-organization to stand for their autonomy and rights against social and patriarchal oppression.
In 2003, women of different cultures, of different movements and organizations, are mobilized for the 8th of March as new day of feminist demonstrations for the globalization of equality and against all "preventive war” politics that governments, transnational giants and multilateral institutions of globalized capitalism promote against life and freedom of the people of the planet.
Women’s movements are calling for action against war in this international day of mobilization because we believe that there cannot be equality between women and men in a world in which oppression is the principle of the whole social, political and economical relationships. But we also know the that a world of peace and social justice can only exist when all women are free to live with dignity, free from the everyday violence that they live and their homes and work places, free from the gender inequality that also structures the world order of fear that all of us want to defeat.
We call for the social movements of the whole world to continue moving forward in the fight for equality with courage to search for the true forms of solidarity between men and women. We call for the women of all movements in the next 8th march to organize actions to celebrate their autonomy, to demand their rights and denounce sexist oppression in all parts of the planet.
All against war!
