JAKARTA (AP): Heavy rains from Wednesday evening
through Thursday afternoon have caused flooding in
Jakarta due to poor drainage system and lack of flood
control facilities. Flooding in Jakarta has not only
affected around 75 percent of the city but also
affected it closest regions like Bogor, Tangerang and
Bekasi.

Storm waters that inundated scores of residential
areas and shopping districts late last week were still
two meters (feet) deep in places, witnesses and an
official say

Hundreds of people remained on the second floors of
their houses Sunday, either trapped or unwilling to
abandon them despite warnings that muddy water running
four meters (13 feet)deep in places may rise in the
coming days. Electricity and water supplies were cut
in many districts, and floods blocked off scores of
roads.

The Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) has
forecast rain for the next two weeks.

The death toll from the disaster hit 25. Some 340,000
others have been forced from their homes

Jakarta and Bekasi to organize the assistance that is
directly given to the evacuation site.

Papernas Member: Urban Poor Union (SRMK) that work
daily in advocating the poor to have free health
treatment in the hospital now opening their emergency
tents in two evacuation site of West Jakarta Barat.

The assistance mostly need in West Jakarta barat,
where the aid relief has not touch three evacuation
sites where around 3000 people dwelled each site.

However, today the available food, mineral water,
vitamin, clothes, medicine and milk, blanket, sanitary
napkins now has very limited. Therefore your
assistance will be very much needed.
