A Rally and Human Chain were jointly organized by Bangladesh Krishok Federation, Motherland Garments Workers’ Federation, Bangladesh Shramojibi Federation and Bangladesh Kishani Sabha in front of National Press Club on Wednesday, 7 October 2020 at 12 noon, in protest of “Rape and violence against women across the country and in demand of trial of horrible gang rapes in MC College in Sylhet and Begumganj in Noakhali district”.
Presided over by Rehena Begum, a woman leader and conducted by Saleha Islam Santana, President of Motherland Garment Workers Federation the meeting was addressed by Comrade Badrul Alam, President of Bangladesh Krishok Federation, Zayed Iqbal Khan, General Secretary of the same, Fayez Hossain, President of Bangladesh Shramik Federation, AKM Shahidul Alam Faruk, General Secretary of Bangladesh United Building and Wood Workers Federation, Subal Sarker, General Secretary of Bangladesh Landless People Association, Baharine Sultan Bahar, President of Jago Bangladesh Garment Workers’ Federation Baharan, Mili Akter, Leader of Bangladesh Kisani Sabha, Tanvir Ahmed Roni, President of Bangladesh Shramjibi Federation, Md. Alamin, General Secretary of Motherland Garment Workers’ Federation, labor leader Ruhul Amin, among others.
The speakers expressed deep concern over the alarming rise in rape, murder and violence against women and children in the country and demanded to the government the immediate highest punishment for the rapists of the new bride in MC College in Sylhet and that of Rosy Akter in Begumganj of Noakhali district. The speakers called upon the people at all levels to build mass resistance against killings, rapes and violence against women across the country.
