In recent weeks, the possibility that Russia will enter into Ukraine has gained strength. There seems to be recruitment of mercenaries in Russia and movement of fuel and military equipment to the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk in Ukraine. In response, Ukraine is arming itself and NATO is sending additional forces to Eastern Europe. Despite efforts for negotiation, tension continues to grow, and at present there is no glimmer of a diplomatic solution to the crisis. This is leaving the people of Ukraine in a delicate situation, in the middle of a policy of counter-accusations and economic interests.
On the other hand, the Russian people are becoming hostage to the foreign policy of their government. They live not only with the uncertainty about the possibility of war, but also are suffering a significant rise in prices and a decrease in value of the national currency. There is, however, no public discussion, only one point of view being expressed on state television, and that is the viewpoint of those favoring war. On television, one hears only direct military threats, venting aggression and hatred towards Ukraine, America and countries of the West. But the most dangerous thing is that war is presented as an acceptable and inevitable course of action under the present circumstances. It is an effort to deceive and seduce the people, to impose the idea of a just war with the West instead of developing the country and raising the standard of living of its citizens.
Meanwhile, attention is diverted from the repression of the Russian government towards the dissident means of communication and the independent NGOs such as Memorial International.
Women in Black Against War :
· Believe that a policy based on promoting the idea that war is a valid solution for a conflict is immoral, irresponsible and criminal.
· Support the pacifist groups that in Russia and Ukraine work to denounce the situation, indicating the hate speech and proclaiming their position for a peaceful solution to the conflict.
· Denounce the action of the European Union, more concerned about the supply of inexpensive gas for the countries of Western Europe than to guarantee the safety of the civil population of Ukraine.
· Demand that our government abandon NATO and all types of international military organization and, therefore, to impede the development of the NATO summit meeting scheduled to take place in Madrid 29 and 30 June 2022.
