Cyclone Mocha was supposed to hit the southern part of Bangladesh being a super cyclone. However, eventually, it lost its speed and hit the south-eastern part---Cox’s Bazarand St. Martin island which is isolated from the mainland of the country. Afterwards, it deadly hit the neighboring country Myanmar covering the Rakhine province, a Rohingya dominated area. It is true that more damage took place in Myanmar than that of Bangladesh. Yet, in places, the loss and damages is not less in Bangladesh. Almost all the houses and trees have fallen down in St. Martin island. The same took place in Kutub Khali, Ukhiya and Tekhnaf of Cox’s Bazar district. Although there is no case of death, a huge number of people were injured due to the flying objects of storms. The damages would be more if there was any water surge. It was good that there was no water surge apart from severe rainfall.
Bangladesh Government Rescue Management was good that they were able to shift in time the people to be affected by the cyclone center to protected areas. But the food support for their survival is not much appreciated. Much relief support is required to the affected people. Immediate rehabilitation is also needed as they cannot stay in the cyclone center for a longer time. They also have to come to a normal life. They have to reorganize their living again. However, they are in a fix and do not know what to do after the cyclone.
Bangladesh Krishok Federation has works in Kutub Khali, Ukhiya and Tekhna. Therefore, it has a responsibility to take care of its members there. We decided to support them with relief materials, especially with food, for their temporary survival. Long-term rehabilitation program will be implemented by the authority, hopefully.
Therefore, we appeal to our friends, supporters, well-wishers and donors for the affected people with as much support as possible. Little support will make them smile and grow confidence in their life. Any help will be much appreciated and we would be grateful to you all.
