Reza Shahabi, Davood Razavi and Hassan Saeidi, three imprisoned members of the Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company, who are serving their 5-year sentence in Evin prison because of their trade union and labour rights activities, are dealing with serious health conditions due to the negligent behaviours of the judicial and Evin prison authorities towards their worsening health problems.
Reza Shahabi, due to neck and back surgeries during his previous imprisonment, despite the confirmation of the prison’s doctors and Taleghani hospital’s specialist regarding the necessity of immediate and emergency neck surgery and stressing the serious and irreparable risks in the absence of surgery, and in spite of the severe pain in the neck area and his high blood pressure, is still awaiting for medical leave and surgery in the hospital.
Reza Shahabi was arrested on May 12, 2022, and has not even had a single day of medical leave since then.
Davood Razavi, 63-year-old, is suffering from gastrointestinal diseases, vision problems and knee pain. Davoud Razavi continues to suffer from the lack of medical treatment and care.
Davood Razavi was arrested on September 27, 2022. Since his arrest, he has been deprived of any medical leave, despite worsening digestive problems and bleeding, as well as suffering from eyesight degeneration, knee pain, and arthritis.
Hasan Saeedi lost most of his teeth in prison due to gum and mouth disease and the prison authorities‘ negligence to treat his teeth. His loss of teeth has caused digestive disorders.
He urgently needs to have his teeth treated outside of prison.
Hasan Saeedi has been in prison since May 18, 2022, without a single day of leave, even after his son’s serious accident.
These three imprisoned workers and longtime members of our syndicate have been sentenced to unjust long-term imprisonments due to their two decades of insistence on defending workers’ rights and the right to organize and form trade unions.
Following their arrest, they were kept in solitary confinement and underwent interrogation for months and subsequently sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment, two years of exile and prohibition from trade union and social activities; the appeals court confirmed the exact same sentences without they even be able to defend themselves in the court.
We are greatly concerned about the serious physical conditions of our imprisoned members, Reza Shahabi, Davood Razavi, and Hassan Saeidi and demand an immediate medical leave for them. We further call for their unconditional release and the freedom of other imprisoned workers, teachers and students and all political prisoners.
