On April 13, farmers from across the country will take to the streets in protest. These protests are being organized on the call of the Pakistan Kissan Rabita Committee (PKRC) and Haqooq e Khalq Party. Demonstrations will be held in more than 30 cities including Islamabad, Lahore, Bahawalpur, Rajanpur, Jhang, Kacha Khoo (Khanewal), Bhakkar, Jatoi, Shikarpur, Larkana, Sukkur, Badin, Mardan, Upper Dir, Malakand, Lakki Marwat, and many others.
The farmers are raising their voices against corporate farming, the unfair distribution of water, and the construction of six canals from the Indus River. They are also demanding that the government set the minimum support price of wheat at Rs. 4000 per 40 kilograms and stop the privatization of PASSCO (Pakistan Agricultural Storage & Services Corporation).
The Pakistan Kissan Rabita Committee, along with the Haqooq-e-Khalq Party, has launched a nationwide campaign starting April 13 to oppose corporate farming, resist the canal projects from the Indus, and push for a fair official minimum price for wheat.
On this occasion, PKRC Secretary General Farooq Tariq has called upon all farmers to participate actively in the nationwide protests today.
