The diverse and important contents of each question (reinstatement to the workplace for those dismissed without just cause, greater compensation in companies with fewer than 15 employees, grounds for fixed-term contracts, client responsibility in subcontracting, swifter access to citizenship for migrant workers) highlight the political significance of these referendums. Namely, the need to strengthen the unity of the entire working class, putting the rights of those who live by their labour back in the foreground—who are the vast majority of people—whilst removing from their pedestal that minority of wealthy individuals who are currently centre stage and claim to manage society for their exclusive benefit.

For decades, they’ve tried to convince us that giving businesses free rein would benefit everyone, but the facts have proved the opposite. Entrepreneurs think only of their profits, and the conditions of those who work have continuously worsened.
Today, moreover, the bosses’ Europe, which for years imposed austerity, is planning a mad rearmament programme of 800 billion that will be paid for by the working classes through further cuts to healthcare, education, and welfare, and with low wages, further increasing the profits of the defence industries.
This is why achieving the quorum and victory in the referendum concerns everyone, including those who are now retired or have relatively secure jobs.
A radical change to the system is indeed necessary, putting the economy at the service of people and not the other way round. This requires a democratically planned economy, where what, how, and how much to produce is decided based on current needs and those of future generations, not based on the profit of a few.
It’s necessary for those who live by their labour to organise and mobilise for the interests of their own class, knowing that every positive result, even if partial, is a step forward that gives greater strength to the working class as a whole in defending their working and living conditions.
