Jelena Miloš and other Možemo! MPs in the Croatian Sabor ( Parliament)
In the Croatian Parliament (Sabor) today, a proposal by Možemo! was voted on regarding the recognition of Palestine, as well as a decision to suspend arms exports to Israel due to genocide in Gaza and to suspend agreements with Israel due to human rights violations. The proposal was supported by only 44 MPs, with 73 against, whilst the rest abstained. This is the second time that the HDZ majority has rejected recognition of Palestine and sanctions against Israel, despite the fact that the majority of Croatian citizens want Palestine to be recognised.
“Palestine is recognised by more than 150 countries worldwide, and this is not just a symbolic act but part of international efforts to stop the catastrophe in Gaza: the daily killing of civilians and children, the destruction of civilian infrastructure, the displacement of millions of people, scorched earth. Instead of recognition, the HDZ majority proposed a counter-resolution that refuses to take responsibility for any sanctions or recognition. This is contrary to what the majority of Croatian citizens want, and the question is whom this parliamentary majority represents,” emphasised Možemo! MP Jelena Miloš.

The Možemo! party is not giving up and has launched a petition calling on citizens to support the recognition of Palestine, support for halting genocide, and to “wipe away the shame created by the HDZ and the ruling coalition”.
“We call on citizens to sign the petition because together we have defended many interests of Croatian citizens through this approach, from protecting public goods to banning gambling advertisements. This is an important question: is Croatia on the side of peace, justice, and protection of life, or not? The HDZ showed again today that they are not, whilst we know that Croatian citizens are,” they emphasise.
