Dear Mr. Chief Minister,

I am writing to express my shock and dismay on hearing about the physical assault on Medha Patkar and other social activists, who were on their way to Nandigram, when they were attaked by CPI (M) supporters.

Medha is known
world over for raising the voice of the people in a non violent manner. It is very sad that this kind of gross violation of law and order is occurring in your state and is being perpetrated by your very own party members.

We request you to denounce this act and take action to put the culprits behind bars. This attack is a direct attack on democracy and hence we request you in the name of democracy to act immediately!

We are very concerned about the escalation of violence in Nandigram and want to express our deep dissatisfaction over the action taken by the state. We also request you to see to it that activists, journalists and ordinary people are safe and not living in constant fear which seems to be the case in Nandigram.
