Appel du “MBMB Team”
After 5 weeks of protest against the French government colonial ruling & the tragic death of an activist, President Sarkozy finally addressed the nation about the social movement in the French Caribbean. Soon after, negotiations started. However Mr. Sarkozi and its government need to know that the people will remain mobilised &attentive - nationally as well as on the international scene - to whether he respects his engagements or not.
In this respect, Stand Up Carib will join the Collectif Dom (France, Paris) call for mobilisation in solidarity to the French overseas cry for EQUALITY with a UK demonstration on the 28th Feb in front of the French Embassy, London.
We call on the UK French Caribbean community as well as on our British friends to join this demonstration in solidarity to the people movement.
All are expected to show a high level of disciple during demonstration.

To the striking workers of the UGTG in Guadeloupe,
We send you greetings of solidarity and resistance from Toronto, Canada. As a group made up of migrant workers, students, trade unionists and others allied in struggle we are inspired by your actions and the demands on which they are based.
As a migrant-based group we understand that the imperialist European colonialist project and the exploitative neo-liberal capitalist system have caused the displacement, oppression and exploitation of workers and peasants throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. Our struggles in Canada for migrant rights, living wages, rent control, labour rights and a deep resistance against the exploitative global economic system align us with your struggle in Guadeloupe.
We call for the resumption of meaningful negotiationes, the return of the Prefect of Guadeloupe and other representatives of the French government to the negotiating table and are in full support of your demands including :
– The immediate drop of 50 cents in fuel prices
– Controls on hyperinflation
– An increase in minimum wage of 200 euros.
– Contract for all precarious workers, public and private sector
– An end to racism in hiring practices
– The creation and protection of jobs, including training for youth;
– The protection and improvement of union rights
– The drop and freezing in rents
– Setting aside 50,000 hectares of agricultural area as protected agricultural zone and setting up a committee for its annual evaluation
– Representation of Guadeloupe culture and language in the media
We note that the world community is watching the actions of the French colonialist state and we await any call for solidarity actions.
In solidarity,
