Day of massive mobilisations mainly in Athens, with the education march of
many thousands people early afternoon hit hard by the police, which turned
Athens into a suffocating city by the use of great quantities of chemicals
and tear gas.
Despite the heavy climate and atmosphere, the demonstration for the migrants
day, organised on the basis of the decision of the assembly of movements of
the European Social Forum in Malmo did take place in front of Parliament and
was successful, taking into consideration the many adverse conditions. More
than 20 migrants communities took part, and more than 30 antiracist and
social organisations.
The rally was not allowed to march to the European
Union headquarters but was blocked by heavy police presence and threats.
Last night 11 o’clock a 17 year old pupil was hit by a bullet on the hand,
from unknown direction and unknown up to the present kind of gun and
amunition. The pupil was standing and talking in a small park of a
neighbourhood, with a company of about 10 of the same age, when the bullet
hit him. After he was rughse to hospital, 20 minutes later another shot was
heard but didn’t hit any of the kids standing on the spot. It took the
police 16 hours to go on the spot and investigate the incident which is
certainly very annoying, since it is from an unkown direction, something
like from a sniper, most probably what we call the para-state.
The General Confederation of Labour is calling for a rally in Parliament
tomorrow at 3 pm, as a protest for the budget under discussion currently.
But due to its refusal to organise and call a strike at the same time, it is
not certain that people will attend this rally.
On the contrary, very massive is expected the participation in the big
concert organised tomorrow in fron of the Central University from 5 until
midnight by the students and pupils struggle committees, with lots of
singers.
The occupation in the building of the General Confederation of Labour is
continuing, and the small unions of precarious workers that took the
initiative for it, in collaboration with masses of people rallying there,
are organising actions for the most marginalised workers as well as
assemblies in the occupied building.
Many occupations all over the country in different public building or
municipal, are starting and finishing every day.
