URGENT APPEAL LETTER
FOR THE VICTIMS OF FLOODS IN METRO MANILA AND NEARBY TOWNS
PLEASE SPREAD AROUND.
Dear Comrades and Friends of the IIRE-Manila,
Just days after the 4th Asian Global Justice School, torrential rains and strong winds hit hard Metro Manila and nearby provinces. This brought widespread flooding that severely affected around a million people and some 250,000 were forced to evacuate. Most of those affected are the poor people, especially those called by the government as “informal settlers” who are living in danger zones in the absence of a better place of abode. Reportedly, the death toll is now up to 15 persons.
One of our befriended organizations in Metro Manila, the Partido ng Manggagawa (PM) [or the Labor Party - Philippines] has been organizing in working class communities in Metro Manila and nearby towns and provinces. Among the severely hit areas organized by PM are the towns of Marikina, Malabon, Valenzuela,Paranaque, Pasay, Marilao in Bulacan, Bacoor and Rosario in Cavite.
In this line, the IIRE-Manila is spreading this letter of Appeal to call upon comrades and friends to help, in anyway, at least the affected areas of PM. Relief and assistance would complement their organizing works on the basis of urban poor and working class issues, climate justice and green jobs.
The Partido ng Manggagawa (PM) has been constantly sending Lecturers and Participants to the Asian Global Justice School of the IIRE-Manila since 2010.
