EU Referendum Result
Women for Independence Statement on EU Referendum Result
Women for Independence are organisationally ready for a second referendum on Scottish independence and we urge all women who want to be part of our campaign to sign up on our website in preparation. It is too early to talk about timescales, and we urge calm heads while the events of the next few weeks play out.
It cannot be right that the democratic will of Scotland can be ignored, and Scotland voted overwhelmingly to remain in the EU. We are concerned about our members who are not UK citizens and what this result means for them. We are concerned that, unfettered by the EU, women’s rights will not be safe from a Tory Government in Westminster.
Today, with goodwill and open hearts, we extend the hand of friendship to all women who voted ’NO’ in 2014. We want you to tell us about the kind of Scotland you want to see, and how we can build that together. We want to know what you think our place in the world and our place in Europe should be. We want to listen, as we have always set out to do.
We will work to paint a vision of a better Scotland that women can share in. Ultimately, we will ask all women to come with us this time.
