Condemning the continuation of violence and terrorism by the liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealam( LTTE) European Union on September 26th Monday announced an immediate travel ban on the organization. The ban which is contemplated to be a precursor to an official ban on the LTTE as a terrorist organization within the EU will prohibit LTTE members from setting foot on any of the EU member states until further notice.
The EU has also agreed that each member state take additional national measures to check and curb illegal or undesirable activities of the LTTE, its related organizations and known individual supporters. This will also restrain fund raising and propaganda activities of Tigers in EU.
Because of this step many difficulties and problems have been caused to Tamil repatriates in European countries. Under the situation of the Sinhala capitalist governments in Colombo are not ready to give a reasonable and a fair political solution for the national problems of Tamils in Sri Lanka. The so-called democratic countries in Europe have taken crucial steps to betray the just struggle of oppressed Tamil people in Sri Lanka
Former governments led by Mr.Ranil Wickramasinghe and Mrs.Chandrika Kumaranathunga agreed to start negotiations with LTTE on the basis of Federal solutions. Because of aggressive pressure of Sinhala racist parties such as JVP & JHU the efforts were reduced to mere platitude. Although there were some problems in the enforcement of the Ceasefire Agreement which was signed between the Sri Lankan government and LTTE nearly two years ago is still in existence.
In accordance with the provisions of this agreement the government of
Sri Lanka undertook and assured to disarm other armed Tamil groups operating in the Northern and Eastern Provinces has become a jargon and a tattle. As such the cadres of LTTE have become targets and victims of these armed Tamil groups and it has become a daily feature that grand scale massacre is taking place in this areas. It has become an open secret that government forces are behind this combats.
During this period of presidential elections in the November 2005 it is disclosed that the prime minister of the present government who is also a candidate in the presidential election in November 2005 as signed many MOUs with JVP and JHU (Main Sinhala Chauvinist parties)on the basis of Sinhala communalistic slogans. So, Tamil people cannot trust further that the any capitalist government can solve their problems by peaceful way. Under this situation the steps taken by EU against the LTTE has directly endangered the lives of Tamil expatriates in European countries and peace process in Sri Lanka.
Therefore we appeal to all progressive and democratic forces in Europe and all over the world to protest their governments against drastic steps taken by the EU. We request earnestly to send us a copy of the protest to the following Email addresses:
